Music has always been more than background noise—it has been my anchor, escape, and ultimately, guide back to myself. Over the past few years, I have battled uncertainty, exhaustion, and moments where I wasn’t sure if I could keep going. But in the middle of all the chaos, I found a way to drown out the noise of doubt, to silence the voices telling me I wasn’t enough, and to hear my voice again. And it all started with nine songs.
Each song on my motivational playlist carries a piece of my story—a struggle overcome, a moment of realization, or a lesson that shaped me into who I am today. These songs are not just melodies, they are the milestones, the reminders of what it means to keep moving forward even when fear tries to hold you back. They are the soundtrack to my growth and that of my family, to my decision to build something bigger than myself, something that will outlive me—a legacy my family can be proud of.
Drowning Out the Noise to Find My Voice
For a long time, I lived surrounded by the expectations, doubts, and opinions of others. It wasn’t until I took control of my narrative that I realized how much of my life had been spent trying to meet standards that weren’t mine.
Gone Before Goodbye helped me process loss and permitted me to grieve on my terms.
Heart of Code reminded me of my mission to integrate technology with human empathy.
Breaking Chains was my declaration of independence, of breaking free from the control that shaped too many of my decisions.
You & Fly have been my family standing behind me.
Each of these songs, in its way, helped me drown out the voices telling me to be small, to settle, to wait. And when the noise faded, I could finally hear my thoughts, dreams, and ambitions. I’ve been listening to this playlist to fuel me, and now I offer it to you. These are the fires fueling our phoenix rising.
Even just yesterday, my family danced around the room, singing, living in the moment. These songs are not just about our struggles—they are about our pursuit of happiness. They are about the joy we create, even when times are tough, the moments where we celebrate the fact that we’re still here, still fighting, still moving forward.
Building a Future Beyond Survival
Survival was the only goal, longer than I care to admit. Making it to the next paycheck, keeping the family afloat, and hardly making enough to get by. That is not the future I want for my family. I refuse to let our story be one of just getting by.
My daughter dreams of working with animals, and she’s already building her roadmap to success. Watching her take those steps fills me with immeasurable pride because I see her learning that she doesn’t have to wait for permission to chase her dreams.
My husband, through his struggles, has turned his pain into music, a testament to his resilience and the power of transformation.
I am working to build something lasting, something that moves beyond paycheck-to-paycheck living and into a future where we plan, build, and create the life we choose.
This is about legacy. Not just for my children, but for every person who has ever felt stuck, waiting for the right time, waiting to not be afraid anymore. The truth is, courage isn’t about eliminating fear—it’s about acting despite it. It’s about doing what you know is best, even though you’re scared, even though you don’t have all the answers. Because there’s only one way to find out: learn, grow, and move forward.
What These Songs Have Taught Me About Growth
The music that has carried me through this journey has reinforced one simple truth: transformation doesn’t happen all at once, and it doesn’t happen without action. Each song represents a step forward:
Fly showed me that love and support are not about holding each other back, but about lifting each other higher.
Burnt Granola reminded me that burnout isn’t a badge of honor, that I can’t keep moving forward if I don’t take the time to rest and recalibrate.
You taught me to open my mind to new perspectives, to see beyond what’s right in front of me, and choose to see a bigger vision.
Crawl helped me accept that progress isn’t always graceful—that sometimes, moving forward means crawling through the worst of it until you find your footing again.
Don’t Cry solidified my understanding that strength isn’t about never falling. It’s about finding a reason to get back up.
Each of these songs drove me to learn who I was and who I am becoming. Proof that growth is possible, that fear doesn’t have to be a stop sign, and that we can all build something greater if we are willing to take that first step.
Leaving Fear Behind and Moving Forward
If there’s one thing I hope to teach through my experiences, it’s that you can’t wait for someone else to permit you—not even your fear. Growth doesn’t wait for the perfect moment. Courage isn’t about being better than your fear; it’s about choosing to act despite it.
These songs helped me step into that truth. They guided me through moments of doubt, through losses that threatened to break me, through exhaustion that nearly stopped me. And now, I share this journey with the world—not just as a reflection of where I’ve been, but as a declaration of where I’m going. We’ll be breaking down a song every week on Friday.
Because someday, we won’t be living just to get by. We will be building, creating, and thriving. And the best part? We’ll be doing it together.
So here’s my message to anyone who feels stuck, waiting for the fear to subside: don’t wait.
Learn. Grow. And take that first step.
The future is waiting for you.
